2020-2021 Kindergarten

Today we read, "  The World Needs Who You Were Made To Be " which is a story that celebrates us all. It reminds us all that we are each unique and our differences should be celebrated. Together we can build beautiful things together. We talked about the qualities that make us all special and wrote down one that makes us unique. We used sharpies to draw out a hot air balloon and then used watercolour to paint it. We will share our creations with you when it is completed :) We looked at 3D shapes and explored their properties. Do they roll, slide or do both. We played with 3D wooden blocks and then used a venn diagram to place each item.  We had centers and an outside break in the windy weather ! Have a wonderful weekend.

Today we book exchange. Thank you to everyone for bring back their home reading folders. Great work with all our daily reading at home. Thank you to parents for making reading a priority at home. We appreciate all the hard work our students and parents are putting into the home reading program.  We continued to learn about 3D shapes. We looked at describing and naming the 3D shapes. Today was pink shirt day at school.  Thank you to everyone who wore a pink shirt and helped us to remember to be kind everyday! We worked on the letter V today.  We practiced printing V and turned the V into a vase with flowers. We read, "  Pink is for Boys " and talked about how colours are for everyone regardless of our gender. We talked about how we can show kindness to others and how we should treat others. We then mixed white and red to create our own colour pink and named our pink colour.  We learned about 3D shapes and talked about the differences between 2D and 3D shapes. How can you tell the difference between a 2D and 3D shape? Ask your child to describe how they know what kind of shape it is. Can you find examples of 2D and 3D at home? Today we started our day with some journal writing. We continue to work on adding lots of details and colours to our pictures. We are learning to sound out words and use the word wall to help us write. We read the story "Penguin Day" and watched a short video on penguins. We worked in groups and drew on paper what we have learned about penguins.  We continued to learn about 2D shapes. We played a guessing game where we had to describe a shape in front of us and our partner had to guess the shape.  We played at centers and had gym. Tomorrow is  PINK  shirt day. Please wear pink in support of always treating others with kindness.   Friday is an AM kindergarten day. We started learning about 2d and 3d shapes. The children were given popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners and had to make as many shapes as they could. We talked about each shape and what it looks like. We played shape games with a partner where one partner drew a shape and the other had to ask yes or no questions to try and figure out what the shape is. For example, "Does it have 4 corners?" "Does it have 3 sides?" etc.  We continued to work on our penguin dioramas.  We had music and gym. Ask your child what they did with Mrs. Coulson and Mr. Der? Wednesday is PINK shirt day.  Today we started the morning with playing cooperative games at our table.  We read, "  If I Were A Penguin  " and talked about what we would do if we were a penguin for a day. We talked about all the interesting penguin facts we have learned through our penguin research.  We wrote sentences and drew a picture to go along with our sentence. We played a dice sequencing game. We had to roll the dice 7 times and record the number and then place the numbers in order from smallest to biggest.  We watched a presentation from Earth Guardians and took at look at their Wild Rose Sculpture in the Hub. It was made with 250 used plastic bags. We went outside and played in the snow.  We had centers. What center did your child play at? Please practice our penguin poem at home :)  If I were a penguin I would dive in the water. I'd swing and eat fish, squid and krill. If I were a penguin, I'd keep my egg safe. I'd protect it for two months from winters chill. If I were a penguin,
