We began the day with a Canadian Flag craft to complete their community booklets. We discussed how each country has a unique flag with special colours and symbols.  We went to Teepee forest and had our class in the wooded area. We first went and explored our surroundings with magnifying glasses looking for signs of Spring.  We then read,  A Stone Sat Still  . Ask your child about what happened to the stone. We  used our imagination to go and find items in nature.  We looked for: A rock a mouse could carry A mountain for a ladybug Something a bird would eat Something brown and bumpy Something an animal would make it's home in We enjoyed the sun and played at the playground and then came back to school where we drew about the signs of Spring on a paper plate.  Have a wonderful weekend :)

Today we started our day with our loose parts Spring bags. It is very fun to make different creations and tell a story as we explore with our items. We had music. What did your child do in music? In the AM class, we talked about the signs of Spring and read,  Abracadabra It's Spring!  We looked at how animals and nature prepare for Spring and what clues we see that show us about the season.  We made flip books with the front being a Winter picture then with the swing of a magic wand "Abracadabra It's Spring" the next page turned into a Spring picture.  In the PM class, we read  When Will It Be Spring?  we then drew pictures in our journal and labelled all our items with beginning letter sounds.  We had gym and centers.  PM Kindergarten had the Just like You presentation. Ask your child what they learned.  We said goodbye to Mrs. Molyneux as yesterday was her last official day at our school. Unfortunately, we didn't get to say goodbye as she was away this week but

Today we practiced printing the letter G and turned the letter G into a gumball machine.  Please enjoy a  Letter G song . We took advantage of the nice weather and went outside to draw things that we see in our community.  We saw many pictures of Eric Harvie School, the fire station, houses, people and the Tuscany Club.  We are very proud of our Kindergarteners as they continue to label their pictures with the beginning sounds they hear in words.  Please ask your child what they saw when we were outside. AM Kindergarten participated in the "Just Like You" presentation.  In the presentation we learned that people with disabilities use tools to help them to do things.  We learned that it is important to include people with disabilities when we play.  PM Kindergarten will have the presentation on Thursday afternoon. Friday is PM Kindergarten. Hats On! for Mental Health Day On the first Wednesday in May, Albertans are invited to wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of

Today we started our day with writing in our journals. We are practicing writing down all the sounds we hear in words.  We read  Franklin's Neighbourhood  and talked about our favourite places to visit in our community. We drew pictures and wrote about our favourite place and why. Ask your child what their favourite place is and describe it to ? In math, we went around the classroom and measured the length of items with unifix cubes. We recorded the object, our prediction and the length of the item. Can you try this at home? What could you use to measure items? Buttons, paperclips, blocks etc.  We had gym and centers.  Friday is PM kindergarten.

Our Kinders began the day with a Canadian Flag craft to complete their community booklets. We discussed how each country has a unique flag with special colours and symbols.  Each table group collectively worked on a building to add to our community. Our little community now has several amenities, including a bank, a grocery store, a pet clinic/store, a hospital, police station, a fire station, and even a Tim Horton's!  In Math we continued practicing measurement, this time incorporating predictions into our learning.  In gym we followed along to a fun, interactive Earth Day "Would you Rather..?" video and played a game called Planting Trees.  There is no school on Monday.  Your child is bringing home their Spring school photos.  Please check their backpack for the proofs. Have a wonderful weekend!

Today in Kindergarten we drew people to go along with the houses we created yesterday. These people will be the citizens of the community we are making!  We also practiced measuring using non-standard units of measurement. The units we have used so far are math cubes, paperclips, and dominoes. An easy way to practice non-standard measurement at home is by counting the number of steps it takes to cross the room. Compare the difference between how many steps it takes for little feet to cross the room and how many for larger feet! In gym we continued our soccer skills learning and played some fun games. We also had music and library.  It was a busy day!!! Tomorrow is AM Friday. There is no school for students on Monday April 26th as it is a Professional Day.
