2020-2021 Kindergarten

 Today was a fun day at school.  We played with the parachute in music with Mrs. Coulson.  Please ask your child what fun games they played. We continued our exploration of our community and today we focussed on the helpers who work in our community.  Please ask your child to share with you some of the community helpers they learned about. We continue to work on 2D and 3D shapes.  We are learning to sort the shapes to make comparisons between them. We had gym with Mr. Der's class.  Mrs. Conley's class had the chance to climb on the climbing wall during gym today.  Mrs. Mask's classes will have a turn this week to try the climbing wall too. We started our morning with our loose part bags. What did your child create with their loose parts? What kind of story can you share about your creation.  Oh, the places we went! Our Kindergarten class had fun exploring the community today. We went on a kindness community walk. We are learning about community and we wanted to explore in our community to see what we noticed. Along the way we stopped and wrote messages of kindness in chalk for people in our community to enjoy.  Ask your child what they found in our community. How did your child spread kindness?  We continued to work in our community booklets. We are talking about people, places and activities we will find in our community.  After our long walk, they still mustered the energy for a challenging obstacle course in the gym where they rolled, ran, climbed, and balanced! We ended our day with centres and a story. Enjoy the weather and have a lovely weekend. 

It was a busy day! Our knowledge of shapes continues to grow, and we played a game to help us recall how many sides each shape has.  We were excited to explore our new Spring items in our loose parts bags!  It was fun to listen to all the stories being told as children explored the new items in their bags. W e also began talking about the people, places, and activities that make up communities.   Today Mrs. Card visited with the library cart and we had music with  Mrs. Coulson .  We continued working on our gymnastic skills through the obstacle course in gym.  Please send in old magazines for a collage we will be working on next week as part of our community study. We're hoping for pictures of prairies, mountains, and rivers or anything that can be connected to Alberta.  Tomorrow AM kindergarten will be going on a community walk. Please pack an easy snack to eat outside. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. 

Today we practiced writing the letter Y in our visual journals. Ask your child what words they know that start with Y. Listen to   Letter Y Song Jolly Phonics Today is animal day and there were lots of classroom creatures!  We continued our study of shapes in Math, this time comparing 2D shapes with 3D objects.  We also learned about St. Patrick's Day and talked about the word mischievous! We had gym and continued to practice our gymnastic skills.  Please return library books and home reading tomorrow.
