Today was all about birds in Kindergarten.  We read the story, "Every Little Thing" and listened to the song "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley.  This song has a wonderful message for our kindies as we begin to talk about our emotions, self regulation and problem solving skills. We used our whiteboards to follow a guided drawing as we drew birds.  We used our sharpies to draw 3 birds in our visual journals. Then we used water color paints to paint our birds.  Please ask your child what color they painted their birds.  We are very proud of our Kindies and the excellent job they are showing as they take care of their bucket of school supplies. We spent some time outside using natural loose parts to build nests for our birds.  Our creativity was shining through. Can you build a birds nest in your yard this weekend? Of course no Friday would be complete without a stop at the playground.  The children were very excited to have their turn on the park! ...

Today was a great day at school! We had library and are very excited to bring a new book home to share.  If your child did not return their library book they were not able to sign out a new book.  Library will be on Wednesday next week as there is no Kindergarten on Thursday.   Today we worked on our scissor skills.  We learned that our thumbs need to point to the sky and that we need to keep our chicken wings (arms) tucked down as we cut.  We learned that our other hand helps us with the cutting by holding and turning the paper.  We cut out 5 simple shapes (ask your child what shapes) and used the shapes to make a picture.  Please ask your child to tell you about the picture they created with the shapes.  Please practice scissor skills at home.  Have your child cut up flyers and make a grocery list or cut out items and sort them into different groups (fruit, vegetables, household items, toys, etc)  If you have playdough at ho...

We started our day by looking at book bins. We talked about how we are all readers and we can start by just looking at the pictures in the book and telling ourself a story. We reread the story, "Our Class is Family," and we read the story "Same, Same but Different".  We talked about our families and counted how many people live in our house. We drew pictures of our family in our journals. We made a graph of how many people are in our family and talked about what we noticed.  Please take note of the yellow x's which are spray painted outside our doors. Please have your child stand on an x as they wait to have their hands sanitized prior to entering the building. Kindergarten x's are located on the left hand side if you are facing the doors.  Please use x's instead of lining up on the wall. Thank you for your cooperation.  Today we sent home our first Scholastic book order for this year.  All orders must be placed by Sept 25. Please return all library book...

Today was a great day at school. We are learning about patterns and practicing making our own. Try making a pattern using actions/movements at home.  We interviewed some more friends in kindergarten today. What were their names? What was something they told us about? We read the story, "Our Class is a Family". We talked about what a family is to us and how school could be a like a family too. We made a list of classroom expectations. What is on our list? We drew pictures in our visual journal about our classroom.  Ask your child, what they drew. We had gym outside at the playground with Mr. Der.  Please pack a spare change of clothes in a plastic ziplock bag for your child incase a change of clothes is needed. Thank you for your cooperation.  With cooler weather approaching, please practice doing up zippers on jackets with your children so they can do their zippers independently. Thank you.

Happy Monday!  Today was a great day at school.   We read the story "I Like Me" and talked about all the reasons why we like ourselves.  In our blue journals we copied the words "I like" and then drew a picture of something we like. We had music with Mrs. Coulson.  In music we did a silly dance.  Mrs. Coulson has a huge drum that she played for us.  Then we all got a turn to try drumming on our own drum. We interviewed 3 classmates today (2 AM, 1PM) to learn a little more about our friends at school.  Once your child is interviewed they will bring home index cards with their answers.  We look forward to learning more about our new friends in the month of September. We had gym with Mr. Der and he took us to the playground! Please remember this Friday September 18th is a PM Friday.  There is no school for AM students. Thank you parents for all your help in sending pre-opened snacks or containers that your child can open.  We appreciat...
