Today was all about birds in Kindergarten.  We read the story, "Every Little Thing" and listened to the song "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley.  This song has a wonderful message for our kindies as we begin to talk about our emotions, self regulation and problem solving skills.

We used our whiteboards to follow a guided drawing as we drew birds.  We used our sharpies to draw 3 birds in our visual journals. Then we used water color paints to paint our birds.  Please ask your child what color they painted their birds.  We are very proud of our Kindies and the excellent job they are showing as they take care of their bucket of school supplies.

We spent some time outside using natural loose parts to build nests for our birds.  Our creativity was shining through. Can you build a birds nest in your yard this weekend?

Of course no Friday would be complete without a stop at the playground.  The children were very excited to have their turn on the park!

Your child came home with a library book today. Regular book exchange will be every Thursday for all kindergarten students. Please return the books by next Wednesday if your child would like to get another book. A reminder to take good care of the books at home (no eating, drinking or art supplies around the books please)

We started learning about 2d and 3d shapes. The children were given popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners and had to make as many shapes as they could. We talked about each shape and what it looks like. We played shape games with a partner where one partner drew a shape and the other had to ask yes or no questions to try and figure out what the shape is. For example, "Does it have 4 corners?" "Does it have 3 sides?" etc.  We continued to work on our penguin dioramas.  We had music and gym. Ask your child what they did with Mrs. Coulson and Mr. Der? Wednesday is PINK shirt day.
