Thursday January 28

Today was an exciting day in Kindergarten. We had a special virtual visit with Canadian author Marty Chan. We were so engaged by his storytelling!  During his storytelling, we got to act out parts of the story with him. He told us about writing the story, True Story. Ask your child about how he came to write True Story.

We played a card game called War. Please practice this game at home.

Divide a deck of cards in half (remove any face cards) Flip over the top card. You must say the number you flip over. Then the player with the higher number must say ___ is bigger than ___  and takes the cards and discards them to the side. Play until you have no more cards in your pile. To challenge ourselves we flipped over two cards at once and practiced counting on from the biggest number.

We had library exchange, music and gym outside today.

On Tuesday February 2nd, we will be having a virtual field trip to the Calgary Zoo. We will be visiting and learning about the penguins. For the field trip day we wanted the children to dress like penguins. Please wear black and white for the day.

Thank you for returning your home reading books. As a reminder, please log the home reading books only once on the sheet. We encouraged you to read them multiple times and read other books as well but we ask that you only record the home reading books on the log sheet and only once. Thank you for your cooperation.

We are very happy to see the children so excited about home reading. Thank you for all your support at home :)

 Get outside and be active!

Wednesday, February 3 is this year’s Winter Walk Day.  The goal is to get more Albertans physically active outdoors during the winter.  Just because it is cold outside, it does not mean we can’t be active outdoors.  Most of us already doing this; February 3 is a great time to celebrate it.  It may be as simple as walking to and from school, playing in the snow, taking a walk after dinner, going bird watching, or any of the countless activities we are fortunate to be able to do during the winter.
