Thursday January 21

An important announcement about Valentines at school this year.  Unfortunately, due to COVID protocols students will not allowed to exchange Valentines cards at school.  We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Wednesday February 10th with red, white and pink day.  Students are encouraged to dress in their finest Valentine's colours.  We will work with our students to show kindness at school in ways that keep us all safe and healthy.  Thank you for your understanding.  If you have questions, please email your child's teacher.

Today was a fabulous day at school.  We took advantage of the nice weather and went outside for gym.  We had library book exchange as well.  We had music with Mrs. Coulson.

We read the story, "Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice".  We worked on solving penguin word problems.  We found 5 penguins on the ice and 3 penguins in the water and wondered how many penguins we had all together.  We drew pictures to help us count the penguins and we wrote the addition sentence 5+3=8.  Each of us then made up our own penguin math problem.  Try solving some penguin math problems at home this weekend!

1.  3 penguins went for a swim and 3 more penguins dived in.  How many penguins are in the water?

2.  Pete the penguin caught 4 fish at breakfast and 3 fish at lunch.  How many fish did Pete catch?

3.  5 penguins waddled on an iceberg and 4 more joined in the waddling.  How many penguins were waddling on the iceberg?

Tomorrow is an AM Friday.  Next Friday January 29 is a PD Day - there is no school for students.
