Monday January 25

Today we are starting our home reading program. Your child will come home with a coloured folder and 3 books to read over the next few nights. We ask that you send back the coloured folder every THURSDAY.  In order for our home reading program to work we ask that you please send back the books on Thursday so that we have enough books to go around for all of the children. We need the books to quarantine over the weekend so that we can send them back out with students on Monday. We appreciate your cooperation. In the coloured folder you will find a notice about the home reading, a reading log, some helpful tips about reading with your child and 3 books. Please choose one story per night and log in on the record sheet. You may read that story multiple times but please only record it once on the sheet.

Today we started our penguin research booklet. We reviewed the body parts and labelling of the penguin. Ask your child to name the body parts on a penguin.

We did a science experiment today to answer the question, "How Do Penguins Stay Warm?". We brainstormed some ideas and then learned about the word blubber. Ask your child what blubber means. We then put our hands in a bucket of ice/snow and one hand in a bag of blubber (Crisco) Ask your child to describe what they noticed between the hand in the ice and the hand in the blubber.

We had music and gym. What did your child work on with Mrs. Coulson and Mr. Der.

An important announcement about Valentines at school this year.  Unfortunately, due to COVID protocols students will not allowed to exchange Valentines cards at school.  We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Wednesday February 10th with red, white and pink day.  Students are encouraged to dress in their finest Valentine's colours.  We will work with our students to show kindness at school in ways that keep us all safe and healthy.  Thank you for your understanding.  If you have questions, please email your child's teacher.
