Thursday June 3

Today we started our day with loose parts to create a story to share with the children at our table. We had our final library exchange. All books are due back by June 11th.

We continued to work on addition math problems. We are working on using many ways to help us solve problems such as drawing pictures, counting out objects, using a number line, using your fingers, counting on etc.

We played addition game with a dice and a deck of cards. You place the deck facing downwards and flip over the top card then roll the dice. Add the dice and the card together. If you add the sum correctly you keep the card and if you miscount place the card on the bottom. We practiced the skill of counting on from the biggest number. Try playing at home.

Today was Mental Wellness day so we talked about our feelings and what happens when something is hard for us. We discussed how it makes us feel and what can we do to solve the problem. We learned about having a growth mindset. We watched: Sesame Street Do Growth Mindset Talk to your child about what it means to have a growth mindset and the power of saying "YET".

We had music with Mrs. Coulson. We went outside to the playground with Mr. Der. PM kindergarten played activities in the gym as it is very warm outside.

We played at centers.

Tomorrow there is NO school for children. Have a lovely weekend!

A note from Mrs. Kinsman:
Effective today, please adjust mask-wearing procedures as per these guidelines:

  • for outside PE involving running or exertions, please have all students remove masks, reminding them they need to be 2m apart if at all possible
  • for Coulee walks, please tell the children they are welcome to remove their masks but must take care to be 2m apart while walking, talking and working - walking in particular may be quite hot and they are able to distance themselves while on the sidewalks, trails, etc - when they are working together in the Coulee, if they are in close contact, they will need to put their masks on during those times or if they are gathered closely for discussion groups
  • for recess/outdoor body breaks, children are welcome to remove their masks if they are running around and playing to avoid over-heating; if they are playing more sedentarily, please have them keep their masks on if they are less than 2m apart
  • when children return to the building from an outdoor break, PE or Coulee/community walk, please ask them to check if their masks are sweaty and wet and encourage them to change masks once they are back inside (we do have many cloth masks in the office we could share if they do not have a spare in their backpacks)
