Math: Bug Parade
Materials: pencil, scissors and colors

Please enjoy the story The Best Bug Parade

Draw and color your own imaginary bugs. Cut them out and arrange then in order of size.  Line them up for your best bug parade. Use words such as shorter, longer, smaller and taller to describe them.

Challenge:  More fun with the math concepts presented in the "Best Bug Parade"
Materials: tape measure or ruler, ball, a coin

Look for things in the real world, family members, pets, furniture, plates, flowers and discuss their size relationships. "Who is bigger?" "Which is smallest?". You can extend the concept by asking "which is older?" "which is youngest?" "which is darker?" "which is lightest?"

Take a tape measure or ruler and compare plants in your garden or a nearby park.

Use the vocabulary "long, longer, longest" and "short, shorter, shortest" to discuss the distance a ball is kicked or thrown.

Play coin toss on the sidewalk and measure each toss to see which is longer, shortest, etc.

Challenge of the Day
Materials - any small toys (like Lego for example)

Use the toys to build and make your first name. If you are looking for an extra challenge, try building your last name too!
