Friday February 5

 Today was a very penguin day at school.  We used water-colours to paint a background for our penguins to be added to.  We sprinkled salt in the paint to make it look like snow in the pictures.  While the salt effect did not work we still had fun using our pincher fingers (good fine motor practice too!) to drop salt on to our pictures.  Later we used our sharpies to draw penguins to add to our backgrounds.

We talked about predators of penguins.  Please ask your child what some of the penguin predators are.  Some of us drew orca whales and some of us drew leopard seals.  

We finished our penguin research books by turning the whole book into a penguin.  They are adorable!

We had gym and centers too!  We played a fun new game of tag in the gym.  Please ask your child about it!

There is no school next Thursday or Friday for teachers convention.

 Tomorrow is library day.  Please return your library book. Friday is AM Friday.  There is no school Friday January 29 as it is a Professional Development day. Monday February 22

We started learning about 2d and 3d shapes. The children were given popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners and had to make as many shapes as they could. We talked about each shape and what it looks like. We played shape games with a partner where one partner drew a shape and the other had to ask yes or no questions to try and figure out what the shape is. For example, "Does it have 4 corners?" "Does it have 3 sides?" etc.  We continued to work on our penguin dioramas.  We had music and gym. Ask your child what they did with Mrs. Coulson and Mr. Der? Wednesday is PINK shirt day.
