Mr. Der Phys Ed Video

Math: Games

Materials: deck of cards, 2 dice, bowl of cereal, paper & pencil

Go Fish: Play like ‘Go Fish’. Remove all face cards and jokers from the deck and just use two suits to play. Shuffle out five cards to each player and then place the remaining cards in the middle. Players are to keep the cards in their hands hidden. Players place any pairs in their hands face up on the table. Players take turns asking each other for cards. If a match is made, pair is placed on table and player receives another turn. If not, player being asked says ‘Go Fish’ and player then takes a card from pile.

Extension: Instead of saying, Do you have a 5?” say, “Do you have one less than 6?” or “ Do you have one more than 4?”

Counting Crunchies: Player number one rolls and takes that number of crunchies (cheerios or whatever cereal you have on hand) from the bowl. Players alternate rolling the dice. Play continues until all players have had ten rolls. Players count up their crunchies. The player who has the most crunchies is the winner. Players may need to keep track of how many rolls they have had. They may keep count using the paper and pencil. Players eat crunchies at the end of the game!

Extension: Count each crunchie using pattern counting: 2, 5, 10 or 100.

Before and After: Choose one suit from the deck, cards from ace to ten. Player flips over a card and needs to tell you the number on the card, the number that comes before the number and the number that comes after the number on the card.

*If you cannot attend a google meet, listen to Snowmen At Night . After listening to the story, draw a picture about what you think snowmen do at night. Remember to add lots of details and big bold and bright colours. After you have drawn your picture do your printing at the bottom of your picture. Write "At night my snowman..... " try and sound of the first letter sound to what your snowman night do. For example, if you think your snowman makes a fort with his friends, listen to the word fort. What does that start with? Write down the letter sounds that you hear.
